"Sýnir," or "Visions" in Icelandic, is the result of a photographic expedition to Iceland self-organized by graduates of the 11th edition of the Sputnik Photos Mentoring Programme following the conclusion of our studies. Exasperated by over-tourism and the increasing commercialization of travel to Iceland, "Sýnir" is my documentation of a more uncommon vision of Iceland. As a foreign traveler, my aim was not to "capture" nor "take" images to then "bring back" home, but rather use the medium of photography to examine what makes the landscape of this place unique and explore the meanings of the visions discovered. A selection of photos from "Sýnir" is part of the photo zine "Breiðafjörður," self-published in 2023 by graduates of the 11th edition of the Sputnik Photos Mentoring Programme.
