In May 2021, Polish-Belarusian activist Jana Shostak led a demonstration on Warsaw's Castle Square in solidarity with Belarusian activists brutally repressed by the Lukashenko regime following the 2020-2021 anti-government protests in Belarus. Since the crackdowns in Belarus, Warsaw's Belarusian diaspora regularly organizes marches and demonstrations is support of the Belarusian opposition. In March 2026, demonstrators carried a massive, 330 meter long white-red-white flag of the Belarusian pro-democracy movement though central Warsaw during celebrations of Freedom Day, an unofficial holiday commemorating the declaration of independence by the Belarusian Democratic Republic in 1918. Attended by opposition leaders Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Pavel Latushko, the holiday was an occasion to demonstrate for a transition to democracy in Belarus.
